SANTA RITA, Guam – Cmdr. Robert D. Holt relieved Lt. Cmdr. Edward Yandoc as officer in charge (OIC) of Coastal Riverine Group (CRG) 1 Detatchment Guam at Asan Beach War Memorial, Dec. 19.
Yandoc assumed duties as OIC in May 2018 and has since ensured critical Embarked Security Team capability and capacity was available to support Special Mission Ship (SMS) operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility, while at the same time integrated and employed the Navy’s newest combatant craft, the Mark VI Patrol Boat.
“In the eight months Lt. Cmdr. Edward Yandoc was in charge, CRG 1 accomplished a lot,” said Capt. Stanfield L. Chien, Commander CRG 1. “Under Yandoc’s leadership, the team executed humanitarian disaster relief utilizing Mark VI patrol boats to deliver military members from the joint services, and supplies and equipment that was essential in recovery efforts.”
During Yandoc’s tenure, Embarked Security Teams (EST) fulfilled Combatant Commander's (COCOM) Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection requirements, protecting high value assets and critical infrastructure. The ESTs executed 81 SMS operations in support of national tasking.
He also Developed a "fly away" boat maintenance capability using Maintenance
Operations and Support Team (MOST) personnel, resulting in the successful execution of small boat maintenance training to US partners during Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Timor Leste and CARAT Sri Lanka.
“The mission we have today could not be more relevant,” said Cmdr. Robert D. Holt, incoming OIC. “I’m looking forward to working with you all and carrying on the legacy and leadership Lt. Cmdr. Yandoc has left behind.”
CRG provides a core capability to defend designated high value assets throughout the green and blue-water environment and provides deployable Adaptive Force Packages (AFP) worldwide in an integrated, joint and combined theater of operations.
