SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany – The 52nd Fighter Wing hosted two local Polizei leaders who toured the base Security Forces training facilities, December 11, 2018.

Polizeidirektor Ingolf Hubert, Polizei Academy education and training department head, and Erster Polizeihauptkommissar Edgar Breit, Wittlich-Wengerohr Polizei unit head, visited in an effort to enhance the working relationship between the Polizei and the 52nd Security Forces Squadron.

“We want to further enhance and build on our already solid relationship,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Steven Lovett, 52nd SFS commander. “We work with Polizei day in and day out and want to take it a step further to see if there are any areas that we can train on together.”

Hubert echoed the excellent relationship and desire for further collaboration between the Polizei and 52nd SFS.

“We have a long-standing partnership and want to simplify our collaboration and training,” said Hubert. “Our goal is to get closer by working together, getting more experience together and by sharing experiences with each other.”

The collaborative training effort could possibly involve both Spangdahlem AB and Polizei facilities.

Lovett said he recently visited the Wittlich Regional Polizei training facility. He expressed interest in using both facilities for creating a cooperative training environment for the Security Forces defenders and some of the Polizei officers to train together on tactics and procedures.

Hubert and Breit were impressed by the training environment provided by the 52nd SFS facilities.

“We had a perfect day,” said Hubert. “We were thoroughly impressed with the shoot house and especially the passageway observation deck. Training in environments such as the shoot house is a step in the right direction to practicing more urbanized police work, providing a training scenario that is highly volatile and can be shifted to the needs of each training.”
