A U.S. Army soldier returned home to Cody, Wyo., Dec. 9, after graduating Army Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training to assist the local recruiting station as a Hometown Recruiter.

Pvt. Brock Goodwin, an aircraft structural repairer and graduate of Cody High School and WyoTech, enlisted in May, 2018, but already feels the Army has had a positive impact on his life.

He described feeling the most proud when his family attended his AIT graduation, where he was named Distinguished Honor Graduate and earned the Bronze Seap Award.

“I joined to give myself the best opportunity to succeed,” Goodwin explained. “Doing this has set myself up for success in my Army career and my civilian life after the Army.”

The Army offers unique experiences, such as the opportunity to build international relationships in a joint training environment.

“It’s a great way to see the world and to meet some of the best people from all over the world,” Goodwin said. “I worked alongside three Indian International Air Force students while I was in AIT. This was an amazing experience and I learned a lot from them.”

Once Goodwin completes the Hometown Recruiter Assistance Program, he will focus on his primary occupation as an aircraft structural repairer, which includes supervising and performing maintenance on hundreds of various airplanes and helicopters.

“The Army looks after you,” he said. “No matter what.”

Any individual interested in joining the U.S. Army or Army Reserve, or hearing more of Goodwin’s story, may contact the Cody U.S. Army Recruiting Station at (307) 763-6236.
