The Reserve Citizen Airmen of the 302nd Mission Support Group welcomed their new commander during an assumption of command ceremony here, Dec. 1.

Col. Tara Nolan accepted command of the 302nd MSG from Col. James DeVere, the 302nd Airlift Wing commander, who presided over the ceremony and explained his reasons for selecting Nolan as the group’s new commander.

“Col. Nolan exemplifies what it means to uphold the Reserve triad of family, civilian employment, and being a traditional reservist,” said DeVere. “What I saw in her was a professional, well-rounded Airman who will bring a tremendous amount expertise to the wing.”

Before taking command here, she commanded the 96th Aerial Port Squadron, Little Rock AFB, Arkansas. She is a command pilot with more than 1,650 flying hours and has also flown combat missions in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

“There are four pillars of command experience for general officers,” said DeVere. “Nolan has experience in all four pillars, and one of my jobs is to grow general officers. I’ll just leave it at that. She sets an excellent example for the men and women of the 302nd MSG.”

Addressing 302nd MSG reservists for the first time as their commander, Nolan told the group she was happy to inherit a great team and was looking forward to working with them.
