Children of Georgia National Guard Soldiers will be able to receive a scholarship to attend Georgia Military College Preparatory School thanks to the NewDay USA Foundation. Brig. Gen. Randall Simmons, commanding general of the Georgia Army National Guard joined Rob Posner, CEO and president of NewDay USA; NewDay USA Executive Chair retired Rear Adm. Thomas Lynch and GMC President Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV in making the announcement at GMC’s Milledgeville campus Dec. 3, 2018.

“My objective today is to simply and sincerely say ‘thank you’,” said Simmons.

Simmons, who commanded the 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team during its 2013 deployment to Afghanistan, described the importance of the scholarship.

“As many of you know, the 48th IBCT is currently at Fort Stewart, preparing for its fourth major combat deployment since September 11,” said Simmons. “We are on schedule to deploy roughly 2,100 Soldiers soon after the holidays. But it’s not just our Soldiers that bear the sacrifice of service. The sacrifice is felt by families.”

NewDay USA, a Veterans Administration mortgage company, will award a full GMC Preparatory School scholarship to any child of a Soldier of the Georgia National Guard 48th IBCT that is deploying to Afghanistan. The annual tuition of $5,250 will be available for grades three through twelve. The only requirement is that the students maintain their grades and discipline.

In addition to announcing the scholarship opportunity for children of 48th IBCT Soldiers on their current deployment, Rob Posner, CEO and president of NewDay USA joined GMC leadership in presenting a scholarship to Kathryn Bailey, daughter of a Georgia Army National Guard Soldier who participated in the first deployment of the 48th IBCT.

“It is a blessing for us at NewDay USA to be able to give,” said Posner. “Thank you for allowing us to serve you. It is an honor to be here today.”

The NewDay USA Foundation has awarded full-tuition scholarships to high school students at 13 military schools in 11 states, including 13 GMC Prep School Cadets.

Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV, president of GMC extended words of appreciation to Brig. Gen. Simmons and the 48th IBCT Soldiers who will soon deploy and thanked NewDay USA for their gift.

“Your commitment to the Veteran, your commitment to those who serve, your commitment to the families is incredibly honorable and I cannot thank you enough,” said Caldwell. “Thank you for your gift to the Georgia National Guard and their families.”
