Recruiting Station Frederick, Maryland, earned top honors as the 4th Marine Corps District Recruiting Station of the Year for fiscal year 2018.
RS Frederick finds the next generation of Marines in areas of Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. Throughout the year, RS Frederick contracted 690 future Marines and shipped 687 to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina.
These are only a couple of the many factors that contributed to the success of RS Frederick this FY.
“One important factor that RS Frederick focuses on is the basics, prospecting and selling,” explained Master Gunnery Sgt. Michael Nash, the Recruiter Instructor at RS Frederick. “We all share one characteristic as a recruiting station and that is each member of the team cares for one another and is willing to carry the water and assist when needed toward mission accomplishment.”
It’s commonly known that it takes a village to ensure each Marine is successful on recruiting duty.
“Each and every command member focuses on their daily, weekly, monthly, and annual goals that relate directly to assisting the men and women who have the tough job, the staff noncommissioned officers in charge of the recruiting substations and their recruiters,” said Nash.
Another factor of a successful recruiting station is the level of support given by their higher headquarters.
“How much support and how quick the support is given can dictate the relationship between district and the recruiting station,” said Nash.
“Luckily, we have good people at district who wants to see everyone succeed.”
Overall, the key component of a successful recruiting station is unselfishness
“The willingness to grind alongside the Marines beating the streets pays dividends,” exclaimed Nash. “The recruiters see us walking with them, shoulder to shoulder, in order to accomplish the mission and when they are not in our presence, they do not want to let the team down.”
The Marines of RS Frederick also has a big support system behind the scene.
“We obviously would not be able to accomplish anything without the support of the families and their unwavering patience and sacrifice for their Marine to accomplish the mission,” said Nash.
RS Frederick had a great year but remains humble and striving for excellence.
“Frankly, we did not do as well as previous years and we have room to improve,” said Nash. “We will focus on our deficiencies and continue to be a recruiting station 4th MCD can count on.”
