Employees from the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support’s Medical supply chain toured a DLA Distribution facility in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania for a behind-the-scenes look of their daily support Nov. 14.

Medical’s Culture Improvement Team sponsored the day of training for 17 employees to learn how DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania works with Medical supporting service members and its other customers.

“This CIT-sponsored event was important in order to help our Medical employees see how their hard work here at Troop Support lends itself to supporting the warfighter, whole of government and foreign military sales customers with [medical] supplies,” said Yvonne Poplawski, Medical CIT co-lead and Collective and Foreign Military Sales division chief.

The tour taught the employees about the warehouse’s cold chain arena, controlled substance cage, medical kitting, medical mission stock and foreign military sales’ air pallet consolidation. They also discussed labeling and marking concerns with the DDSP team.

Sooyun Kim, a Customer Pharmacy Operations Center pharmacist and co-lead for the tour, said even though she was familiar with the DDSP’s support towards Medical’s mission, the behind-the-scenes aspect was “all very new.”

“Having the opportunity to step inside [the space] where mission critical items are stored and assembled left us fascinated,” Kim said. “We were also impressed with the dedication and detail provided by the DDSP team, as well as the tight security management and the magnitude of the operation.”

The tour had a positive effect on Kim.

“Being able to see the actual products that are being distributed out to our troops gave me a lasting impression as a Medical employee,” Kim said.

According to Poplawski, the visit was the first of its kind at the medical warehouse for the Medical CIT.

The Medical CIT sponsors programs throughout the year focusing on communication, training, succession planning and new employee onboarding.
