Wiesbaden, Germany- U.S. Army Europe Commanding General Lt. Gen. Christopher Cavoli welcomed Brig. Gen. Ellen Clark as the new deputy commanding general for mobilization and reserve affairs and German Brig. Gen. Hartmut Renk as the new chief of staff during a ceremony at Clay Kaserne.

Cavoli said Clark will have more than one responsibility during her time here. She is also the director of the Army Reserve Engagement Cell.

“Clark is the senior officer responsible for the Wiesbaden community,” Cavoli said. “And is the director of a number of U.S. Army Europe wide programs we have so it's a big job and she came here ready to go.”

Before Clark joined Army Europe she was assigned to the United States European Command in Stuttgart serving as the battle watch captain and division chief in the Joint Operations Center.

"I am very excited to be here and to be part of this wonderful U.S. Army Europe team,” Clark said. “And more so a part of the Wiesbaden community of family and friends. There are great people here and I really look forward to it."

Cavoli recalled when he worked side by side with Renk.

‘Hartmut is no stranger to me,” Cavoli said. “He was the deputy commander of the German Army Training Command when I was lucky enough to be stationed in Grafenwohr as his counterpart for the U.S. force.”

Cavoli also highlighted how Renk has been a thoughtful and engaged partner since his arrival in August.

U.S. Army Europe’s chief of staff position has been filled by a German general officer since 2014. Renk is the third German officer to fill the post.

"It's a great fortune for me and I really feel very happy to be the chief of staff of this traditional and famous formation," Renk said. "I feel very honored to get this chance."
