FORT GORDON, Ga. – Seven students in class number AD1806 graduated from the Apprentice Cryptologic Language Program (ACLP) course offered by the Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) Det. Fort Gordon, Nov. 2.
The students completed the 12-week training program designed to familiarize them with the operational requirements of a cryptologic technician (interpretive) (CTI) in their respective language, and achieving an overall grade point average of 93 percent. CIWT Det. Fort Gordon’s ACLP division graduates approximately 60 Sailors annually who will go on to serve one of the many mission areas at Navy Information Operations Command Georgia.
"ACLP helped me become comfortable using my language skills in a mission setting,” shared Cryptologic Technician (Interpretive) 3rd Class Joseph McManus about his experience as a student in the program. “I now feel prepared to go to my shop and learn the mission, having a background in technical language applications."
Sailors serving as CTIs conduct information operations using foreign language skills and advanced computer systems; collect, analyze and exploit foreign language communications signals of interest to identify, locate and monitor worldwide threats; control and safeguard access to classified material and information systems; transcribe, translate, and interpret foreign language materials; prepare time-sensitive tactical and strategic reports; and provide cultural and regional guidance in support of joint, fleet (special operations, air, surface, and subsurface), national and multi-national consumers.
"This class has been a pleasure to teach and I am confident that each one of these Sailors will make an immediate and noticeable impact at their gaining work centers,” said Cryptologic Technician (Interpretive) 2nd Class Ethan Willer, lead instructor for ACLP class AD1806.
As a training location for the Center for Information Warfare Training, CIWT Det. Fort Gordon delivers trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services, enabling optimal performance of information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations. CIWT Det. Fort Gordon specializes in training to fleet Sailors in the areas of satellite communications operation and maintenance, maritime cryptologic systems operation and maintenance, and language training graduating approximately 225 students in 30 courses of instruction annually.
CIWT is recognized as NETC’s top learning for the past two years with four schoolhouse commands, two detachments, and training sites throughout the United States and Japan. Training over 21,000 students every year, CIWT delivers trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services. CIWT also offers more than 200 courses for cryptologic technicians, intelligence specialists, information systems technicians, electronics technicians, and officers in the information warfare community.
