WOMACK ARMY MEDICAL CENTER, FORT BRAGG, N.C. – More than a hundred soon to be mothers and fathers came out and participated in a Maternity Fair hosted by Womack Army Medical Center November 3.
Mothers and fathers and grandparents arrived bright and early ready to take part in classes, receive information about services within the hospital and take tours through the labor and delivery clinic.
Dakota and Amanda Croft are expecting their first baby and came to the fair to help be more prepared for their little ones arrival.
“We came, got a lot of information from all of the booths and we attended several classes. We attended the Dads-101 and Sleep Safe classes,” said Amanda. “I now feel more comfortable as new military parents away from home on how to place my baby in the crib to prevent injuries.”
The Womack staff had representatives from every clinic in the hospital involving maternity and post-delivery care.
Tiffany and Dennis Harris, who are also anticipating their first baby, spent the whole day receiving counsel from Womack staff information booths and participated in every class that was offered.
Tiffany inquired with E.J. Collins, a certified registered nurse assistant in obstetrics anesthesia about the epidural.
“I have just heard so many horror stories and I want to ensure I make the right decisions,” said Tiffany.
Outside organizations like the Military Breastfeeding Network provided information to military families on doula services and placenta capsulation.
“We want mothers in the area to know we are here to support those who want an alternative birthing plan. We also encourage our mothers to use our services from the beginning (pregnancy) to the end (post-partum),” said Military Breastfeeding Network Active Duty Director Dominique Hunter.
Families that attended received free baby items and opportunities to win car seats, baby sign language books and play mats.
Womack will host another Maternity Fair April 19, 2019.
