    Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron Seven Nine

    CORONADO, CA – HELICOPTER MARITIME STRIKE SQUADRON (HSM) SEVEN NINE held a change of command ceremony at Naval Air Station Fallon in Fallon, NV. on October 19th 2018. At the ceremony, Commander Peter Hatcher relieved Commander Joseph Davidson as the Commanding Officer of HSM-79 “Griffins”.

    Commander Davidson, a native of Clewiston, Florida, is a 1999 graduate of the University of Florida. At sea, his career as a naval aviator includes assignments with HSL-42 and HSM-71 and aboard USS MONTEREY (CG-61), USS STEPHEN W. GROVES (FFG-29), USS PINCKNEY (DDG 91), and USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN-74). He has served tours at Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center, Expeditionary Combat Readiness Center, and U.S. Special Operations Command.

    Over more than 18 years of service, Commander Davidson has accumulated over 2,500 flight hours in the H-60 and 163 combat missions as an Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Operator. His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal (eight awards), the Joint Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit commendations, service and campaign awards.

    Commander Davidson will be reporting to San Diego, California for his next tour working in the Undersea Warfare Development Center.
