Rock Island Arsenal Senior Commander Unveils Changes to Signs

ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. - Maj. Gen. Duane A. Gamble, senior commander of Rock Island Arsenal, unveiled a new base sign with new wording here, Oct. 19.

The signs, which had been present since 2014, were changed to reflect the overall mission and lineage of the arsenal.

Previously the signs at the entrances to the arsenal included the statement, “Home of Army Logistics.” Two months ago, that statement was changed to, “Producing Army Readiness since 1862.”

“Simply put, every person who works at Rock Island Arsenal supports producing Army readiness”, Gamble said. “From purchasing material and equipment, to manufacturing products and munitions for those products with that purchased material, to ensuring those products get delivered to the Warfighter, to making sure the Warfighter is properly trained on how to use the products, to maintaining the Island that we all come to every day to do these jobs, everyone here plays a role in readiness.”

The change in wording on the signs reminds and reinforces the arsenal’s mission with the workforce and with the local community.

“As one of the first things people see as they enter or drive by Rock Island Arsenal, we wanted to be sure everyone knows what we do as a collective whole here on the Island every day. While specific missions vary from organization to organization, we all have the same overall mission – produce Army readiness and ensure our Warfighters are equipped,” said Gamble.

Rock Island Arsenal is home to seven major commands with subordinate units based around the world.
