The 181st Intelligence Wing held a diversity event October 20 in the dining facility atrium at Hulman Field Air National Guard Base, Indiana.
Diversity Day involved units from throughout the wing sharing information on multiple display tables relating to various demographics.
Each unit assigned to the 181st IW presented materials relating to different heritages, offering a variety of items for participants ranging from food to fact sheets. Indeed, one of the event’s goals was to promote interrelatedness between people from different backgrounds.
Diversity Day promotes the art of thinking independently together, said Senior Master Sgt. Rhonda L. Howell, the human resource advisor for the 181st IW.
Airmen assigned to the wing appreciated the information provided during the event.
“It’s a learning experience because this information is not put out there in your day-to-day life,” said Senior Airman Audrey Hudson, a personnel readiness specialist assigned to the 181st IW.
The different demographics on display included gender, ethnic and cultural diversity. Overall, the event presented an opportunity for Airmen to become more familiar with different walks of life.
“Diversity Day is a good way to get to know the people you work with and learn new things,” said Hudson. “It also helps newer members come to the unit with an open mind toward others.”
