WAIMEA, Hawaii — Hawaii Island residents recently kicked-off the fall season with the Waimea Fall Festival, Oct. 13, at the Waimea District Park. It’s estimated that over 8,000 community members attended the festival.
U.S. Army Garrison Pōhakuloa’s Natural Resources Office staff supported the event with informative displays focused on how they manage threatened and endangered species. Keiki visitors to the displays could also learn about native plants by making wearable buttons and getting to view some of the plants up close.
“The Fall Festival was a great opportunity for the Army and Marines to get out into the community and inform and educate residents about the military and Pōhakuloa Training Area,” said Lt. Col. JR Borce, Commander, Pōhakuloa Training Area.
U.S. Marines with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron, VMM-363, nicknamed the “Lucky Red Lions,” and Combat Logistics Battalion 3, both from Marine Corps Base Hawaii, also supported the event. The Lucky Red Lions flew in an MV-22B Osprey aircraft for families to explore first-hand. The Combat Logistics Battalion 3 supported with bringing vehicles and gear for keiki to try on.
