EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska – Capt. Megan Binkley assumed command of the 168th Maintenance Operations Flight, Alaska Air National Guard, during a ceremony held inside the unit’s maintenance hangar. Col. David McPhetres, commander of the 168th Maintenance Group was the presiding officer.

Binkley began her career as an enlisted maintenance production controller in 2006. After commissioning in 2011, she was assigned to the 168th Medical Group as a medical administration officer and most recently was the 168th Wing’s Sexual Assault Response Coordinator.

McPhetres began his introduction of Binkley by listing off her many accomplishments, emphasizing the important role as SARC coordinator, “You are an example of the ultimate well-rounded Airman,” said McPhetres.

As commander, her responsibilities will include the actions necessary to monitor maintenance operations for the nine KC-135R Stratotankers assigned to the Air National Guard’s most northern wing.

“Having your family here to experience your accomplishments is what the Guard is all about,” said Binkley, thanking her family and friends for their continuous support, with special thanks to her 11-year-old daughter, Katherine, who opened up the ceremony singing the national anthem.

“Being back in this career field gives me a feeling of nostalgia,” said Binkley. “My two expectations for both you and myself as your commander are communication and doing your job. You guys are the ones who get the job done,” Binkley said to her new flight.

“I want to be your direct support to ensure you have the tools and resources needed to continue doing the amazing job you do.”
