VICENZA, Italy — All phone numbers serviced by 509th Strategic Signal Battalion at more than 10 sites across Italy will change as the phone system undergoes an upgrade and migration.

The 509th Strategic Signal Battalion, the servicing Regional Network Enterprise Center for the Vicenza Military Community, will soon begin a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone service upgrade/migration from a regional to a theater solution. Sites that will be affected include Caserma Ederle, Caserma Del Din, Villagio, Longare, Lerino, ASP7, Torri di Quartesolo, Poggio, Butmir, Naples, Site K, and Milan.

0444-61-XXXX and 0444-66-XXXX numbers will be replaced with 0444-71-XXXX. Existing 634-XXXX and 637-XXXX phone numbers will change to 646-XXXX. All phones which are not currently VoIP phones, i.e. black Siemens phones with the 634 prefix, will receive a replacement VoIP phone from 509th. Call forwarding from existing phone numbers to new phone numbers will be automatic.

The start date remains to be determined because several pre-implementation tasks must be completed. The Signal Battalion has installed and tested all equipment needed to provide the new telephone services; however, some additional hardware installations and configurations are required before beginning the migration.

Community members may rest assured: the safety of the VMC, and the ability to reach Emergency Services, is 509th SSB's No. 1 priority.
The unit’s next step is to configure, test and establish service to all Emergency Services phone numbers. These numbers will be available 24/7/365, whether or not power is on. This includes Fire, Military Police and Directorate of Public Works services. 509th will set a migration schedule and notify all users once Emergency Services testing is completed successfully.

Local Information Management Officer (IMO), or S6 personnel, are already informed and can answer any general questions customers may have. Or contact the Dial Central Office help desk by email at usarmy.usag-italy.2-sig-bde.list.509th-sig-bn-dco@mail.mil for assistance. (509th SSB)
