The X-Games Action Sports Show provided a recreational event in honor of the continuous service and sacrifice military personnel and their family members make for the country. Located directly outside the Marine Corps Exchange, the X-Games brought in crowds of Marines and families with its food vendors, bouncy houses, DJ Dacapo and its main event, the professional BMX team.
“We try to keep our shows intense and action packed to put some smiles on peoples faces,” said Dustin McCarty, manager of the McCarty BMX Freestyle Team and professional BMX rider. “We have twice as many ramps this year and the level of riding is always a 10 with our guys. Hopefully we get to continue to bring more people in every year and make it bigger and better.”
MCCS paired up with McCarty to hold two raffles, one before and one after the main event, where BMX bikes and skateboards, signed by the professional performers at the event, were awarded to the raffle winners.
In between giveaways, the main event featured professional riders on BMX bikes, skateboards and Razor Scooters supported by the McCarty BMX Show. The riders hit new personal recorded heights, displaying their talent with various box jump tricks.
“Skateboarding started as a hobby that kept me out of trouble and turned into a career that lets me travel to see different people, ethnicities, and cultures,” said Derrick Wilson, professional skateboarder. “I’m here for the Marines who don’t get to see performances like today outside of the base environment. I’m glad I had the opportunity to show my abilities at Twentynine Palms and to have everyone experience it together.”
