SUFFOLK, Va. - A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to mark the unveiling of Naval Medical Center Portsmouth’s new TRICARE Prime Clinic (TPC) Suffolk, Aug. 17.
“Military treatment facilities such as this one are about readiness,” said Capt. Christopher Culp, NMCP’s commanding officer. “Readiness means assuring and providing for the health needs for our active duty members and their families. It also means a medical force that’s skilled and current, ready to provide world-class care anytime, anywhere.”
Culp mentioned that this new clinic will provide a robust pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, laboratory, pediatrics and family medicine to many beneficiaries in the area and on the peninsula.
Linda Johnson, Suffolk’s mayor, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony and expressed her appreciation for the clinic and staff.
“There is no doubt this has an impact, and it’s not just for Suffolk,” Johnson said. “As we get out to western Tidewater, the folks for Southampton and Emporia, they have to come in, so this makes it so much closer for them. And the fact that Harbor View is the military hub for us, it’s a perfect combination and I’m just super proud.”
TPC Suffolk falls under the leadership of Branch Health Clinic (BHC) Naval Station Norfolk Quad, and will open for patient care on Aug. 27.
“It has been an exciting process to open this clinic, it’s been over a year, and it’s in an area of the community that doesn’t have a clinic close by,” said Cmdr. Jason Lewis, officer-in-charge of the Quad which includes the NMCP clinics in Norfolk, Yorktown, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and now Suffolk. “So, putting something in the area where they live is going to be a great service to all of our beneficiaries.”
