Marines assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, dove into a sunny breach in the recent rainy weather to enjoy the annual H&HS Beach Bash at Fort Macon, N.C., with their families, Aug. 10, 2018.
The Beach Bash is a family-oriented event created to build morale and unit cohesion throughout the squadron by allowing Marines time away from work to relax and get to know other Marines in the Marine Corps’ largest squadron who they may not normally interact with on a daily basis.
“I love seeing [the Marines] outside of work,” said H&HS Sgt. Maj. Christopher Davis. “It allows me to have great conversations with their families and get to meet most of their children.”
“I think [events like this are] important because it gets Marines out of the barracks and doing something else instead of going back to their rooms and doing nothing,” said Cpl. Roy Quinn, an administrative specialist assigned to H&HS.
Marines and family members who attended the event soaked up the sun while enjoying food and activities including volleyball and bean bag toss.
“If we can bring [Marines from across the entire squadron] together and just have a conversation, have some fun and play some games, it builds the morale up,” said Davis. “It allows the Marines to relax and not be part of the job for once.”
Over 230 Marines and family members attended this year’s Beach Bash.
“Marines need to take advantage of any type of unit functions that take place because where else can you take time from work to go share chow or have a drink?” said Davis.
