FORT HOOD, TX – The 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team “GREYWOLF,” 1st Cavalry Division, hosted visitors from the Lebanese Armed Forces August 1- 2, to share knowledge on range operations, training, and vehicle maintenance.

The group visited and spoke with the commander of the Greywolf Brigade, Col. Kevin Capra, and leaders and troops assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment and 215th Brigade Support Battalion.

The Lebanese Air Assault Regiment received a delivery of Bradley Fighting Vehicles from the U.S. government in late 2017. A small group of Soldiers from the Ghost Battalion assisted in the delivery and initial training of the Bradleys.

Staff Sgt. Richard Paulino, the Master Gunner assigned to Bravo Company, 2-7 Cav, was present when delivering the vehicles to their international partners.

“I was very blessed to still be here to meet up with them again and show them my side of the house,” said Paulino. “I was excited to show them how I take care of being a master gunner or anything that pertains to my field of expertise.”

Since the Bradleys are a new capability to the Lebanese Armed Forces, visiting their American counterparts to observe the U.S. Army’s practices provides opportunities to improve their technical proficiency and future fighting potential.

“This lends stability to the region,” said Maj. Robert Barnett, country desk officer for Lebanon and Egypt, U.S. Army Central. “We are increasing the capability of the legitimate military in Lebanon, and by exchanging information, we can attest to the fact that we have a more committed partner in the region.”

Before arriving here, the delegates visited the Red River Army depot, near Texarkana, TX. There, the group witnessed depot level operations on both the Bradleys and Heavy Equipment Transporters.

Following the visit to Red River, the delegates traveled to Fort Hood where they had an opportunity to experience the Bradley training simulators and view a range to get an idea of how to construct their own in the near future. The group also viewed the Greywolf Brigade’s standards and practices for maintenance operations.

“These relationships are important because it’s good to see how other units are utilizing the equipment in theater,” Barnett said.

The delegates then conducted round-table discussions where they could ask questions and plan how to best operate their own ranges and motorpool facilities.

“We are just a small piece to the big picture,” said Paulino. “I think the big picture is relationships. By strengthening our mil-mil relationships with partner nations like Lebanon, our countries build trust and earn credibility with one another when we have to work together to fight against common enemies.”
