The 30-day mark for Task Force Alamo's deployment, signifies the opportunity for the task force to wear their deployment patches, which they celebrated in a ceremony at Camp Lemonnier, Aug. 2.
"Since we've now marked 30 days on ground we use that as our recognition point that these soldiers have contributed enough to the mission to deserve to wear the patch," said Capt. Joseph Brunone, HHC 1st of the 141st Infantry.
Soldiers lined up in open-ranks formation, each holding their patches while platoon leaders went through the ranks and patched each soldier on their shoulder.
"They received the Texas Army National Guard 36th Infantry Division patch which has a long lineage in our state," said Brunone. "Our battalion was one of the battalions at the Alamo. That carries legacy within the battalion and we encompass that in the company."
The infantry division patch means a lot to the soldiers.
"It represents the sacrifice and commitment that you made to the country so the fact that you're here protecting the freedom and the liberties of the families back home and you're doing your part to maintain democracy back home," said Sgt. William Clay Brown 1st of the 141st Infantry. "It's way more than just a patch and I will wear it proud," said Brown.
