    914th Air Refueling Wing

4H is hosting a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) camp here for children ages 8-12 years for the duration of the week of July 22nd. Campers will participate in numerous STEM focused activities throughout the course of the week to include robot building, making magnetic slime, constructing veggie cars, and more.

This year, 64 children whose parents serve in the Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve are participating in the week-long camp, with children ages 13-17 serving as helpers, and those ages 8-12 years as campers.

The program, funded by Air Force Headquarters, was originally designated to accommodate a maximum of 50 children. With registration maxed out three weeks after the camp was advertised, the Airman and Family Readiness Center donated resources to allow an additional 14 children to participate in this year’s event.

The camp is a valuable resource to parents because it fosters children’s curiosity and propensity for critical thinking, understanding and learning through hands-on activity.

“Science is one of the 4H mission mandates that we follow,” says Kaci Evans, a 4H Youth Development and Military Partnership Educator. “It’s a really great topic for us because we do a lot of this programming already and this was just another great opportunity to bring it to the kids on this installation.”

Camp days are packed with back to back activities to occupy the 6 hour days. In addition to the camp’s STEM activities, the children will participate in 1 hour of yoga or sport each day. The children will also receive a lunch and snack provided by the Niagara Falls ARS Heritage Center.

STEM camp aims to captivate the minds of children through play, fostering a learning environment that is both fun and constructive for campers.
