90th Missile Wing

100 volunteers carry 1,200 pounds of American Flag into the rodeo arena.
CFD, ‘The Daddy of ‘em All’, brings the military and civilian communities together for a week-long rodeo powered by approximately 2,900 volunteers. For the past several year’s, Col. Matthew Dillow, 20th Air Force vice commander, has led F.E. Warren Air Force Base’s military committee and is now transitioning the seat to Col. Brian Rico, 90th Maintenance Group commander.
“I am very optimistic that Col. Rico has the tools to accelerate and integrate the efforts of the military committee into the park even more,” said Dillow. “We have nearly 300 volunteers on the military committee and Col. Rico has the leadership and passion for Frontier Days that it will take for us to become more integrated and become an even bigger part of the event. It is a very close partnership, and I think he will make it even stronger.”
The military committee is responsible for planning several aspects of CFD. This includes coordinating for the grand marshals, the Thunderbirds air show, a commander’s reception for visiting grand marshals, cowboy medics, the grand entrance, Military Monday and the Denver Broncos American flag.
These events during Frontier Days are powered by volunteers, and the military committee helps organize a significant number from the surrounding installations.
“We as the military committee try to find what the volunteer is interested in and guide them in the right direction,” said Richard Singhas, 90th Civil Engineer Squadron unaccompanied housing director. “Whether it is the military committee or any of the other experiences, it doesn’t matter where they want to volunteer, as long as they get involved.”
Cheyenne Frontier Days 2018 has come to a close, but the planning for CFD 2019 has already begun.
“We all strive to give our consumer the best experience imaginable and plan year round to ensure the best product,” said Bill Berg, CFD General Committee chairman. “I am proud of all of our volunteers and staff, and our exuberant pride is shown in our entertainment product.”
If you would like to get involved, it is never too early. Keep an eye out for emails and check social media in the months preceding CFD 2019. The military committee is always looking for volunteers.
