CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – Two hundred and sixty-five United States Army Central (ARCENT) soldiers accepted the challenge and tried out for the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (GAFPB) qualifications on July 9 at Camp Arifjan Kuwait. To qualify for the first event, a 100-meter swim in uniform must be successfully accomplished in less than four minutes and in deep water, demonstrate the ability to remove the duty uniform without utilizing any type of support. The swim challenge was just one of four events to qualify for the GAFPB. In the following three days, soldiers had to conduct a basic fitness test and a marksmanship competition using the M9 pistol at a 20-meter range. The last event on July 12, consisted of a ruck march utilizing a minimum 33-pound rucksack for a distance between 3.7 to 7.4 miles. The testing for the GAFPB must be administered by a qualified German physical training instructor. If earned, U.S. soldiers may wear the badge on their dress uniform. (U.S. Army photo by Master Sgt.
