Approximately 50 Air Force reservists from the 302nd Airlift Wing competed in the sixth annual First Sergeants’ Fitness Challenge, July 15, 2018, at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.
Twelve teams of four competitors, some dressed in costumes, sprinted between exercise stations along the running trail at Captain Lyon Memorial Park in a relay-style race competing for the best completion time.
“This event brings teams out here and encourages fitness, which I am all about,” said Tech. Sgt. Jessica Romero, 302nd Civil Engineer Squadron interim first sergeant and event coordinator. “It’s a good way to bring the entire wing together and do something different. I wanted to add a little bit more of a challenge with the equipment instead of doing the same ole running, push-ups and sit-ups.”
During this year’s challenge, competitors dashed between four exercise stations consisting of kettle bell swings, jump rope, front plate raises and medicine ball squats. After each individual completed the route, the team then ran around the track together before receiving their final time.
“We do this every year,” said Romero. “It’s all about the comradery, having everyone come together and having a fun time.”
Taking home the trophy this year were Reserve Citizen Airmen from the 302nd Maintenance Squadron with a time of 8:29. Taking second was the 302nd Logistics Readiness Squadron. In third place was an all-female team from the 39th Aerial Port Squadron.
