Taji Military Complex, Iraq – The Louisiana National Guard’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company 139th Regional Support Group has provided eight Toyota HILUX military vehicles for use by the Iraqi Security Forces Garrison Command located in Taji, Iraq.

The vehicles were needed to increase response capability and fulfill a need for a patrol force in and around Taji Military Complex. Vehicles also increase the 24-hour quick reaction force’s ability to respond to and defend against potential threats.

Lt. Col. Thomas Turner, Deputy Commander for the 139th Regional Support Group, briefly discussed the process of acquiring these military vehicles and the state of the Iraqi Security Forces Garrison Command after receiving them.
“We briefed the Deputy Commanding General of CJTF on this request for the eight vehicles and he responded back to us with positive feedback which allowed us to accomplish this,” said Turner. “As a result of this request, the morale of the Iraqi Garrison Command has elevated as the Quick Reaction Forces (QRF) continues to patrol the perimeter of the base.”
The QRF will use four vehicles for mission essential operations, and the additional four vehicles will be used to manage the daily perimeter security, patrols, and tower management against ISIL supported organizations and other potential threats.
“Taji Military Complex encompasses over sixteen square miles of training and administrative area and traditional QRF assets should be available to respond to address a number of possible events that may take place within this area,” said Turner. “In response, the troop medical clinic requires a 24-hour response capability to rapidly respond to Level I and Level II threats.”
The Iraqi Security Forces Garrison Command is responsible for manning the perimeter towers, supporting base operations, and providing for support to local Iraqi Army commands that reside on Taji Military Complex. The 139th Regional Support Group, operating as the Taji Base Operating Support-Integrator, will work with the base defense operations center, security forces, quick reaction force, and area reaction force to provide relevant training.
