Chambersburg, Pa. – Recently, Letterkenny Munitions Center’s (LEMC) Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Family of Munitions (MFOM) Global Mobile Maintenance Team completed another maintenance mission in Germany focused on maintaining stockpile reliability in support of U.S. Army warfighting readiness requirements.

The MFOM mobile maintenance team, which includes both LEMC technicians and Precision Fire Rocket and Missile Systems Project Office personnel, performed testing, inspection, depot, and field-level maintenance onsite to Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (GMLRS). The team uses the MLRS Family of Munitions Common Test Devices (MCTD), the field test set for MFOM, to conduct serviceability GO/NOGO testing and inspections on the GMLRS rockets.

“Our mobile maintenance team supports the Warfighter to keep munitions in theater readily available and reliable, while saving substantial transportation costs,” said Joshua Shaul, Electronics Equipment Mechanic Leader, LEMC.

Forward maintenance support is critical in maintaining munitions readiness, ensuring the Army has a full range of military options where necessary. LEMC’s mobile repair efforts increase military readiness while delivering a substantial cost avoidance and time savings to the Army by performing maintenance activities at sites where GMLRS are located. LEMC’s onsite support improves asset readiness, prevents unnecessary down time, significantly reduces transportation expenses and provides capability to ensure operational effectiveness of military options.

This mission was just the latest requirement for mobile maintenance generated by the military. LEMC regularly sends teams forward to conduct missile testing, inspection and maintenance to fulfill military readiness requirements across all the services and components.

“LEMC delivers a vital and agile capability that ensures Army warfighting readiness with our mobile maintenance teams,” said Lt. Col. Jeffrey Ignatowski, LEMC Commander. “We will continue to push the operational reach of our capability to wherever it is needed in effort to be left of operational need.”

In 2016, LEMC was designated as the U.S. Army’s Center of Industrial and Technical Excellent for Army Tactical Missile Systems; Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems and Low-Cost, Reduced-Range, Practice-Rocket Missile Maintenance by the Secretary of the Army.

LEMC is located on Letterkenny Army Depot and is a Government-Owned, Government-Operated installation. LEMC conducts regional and global distribution of munitions, provides missile maintenance, and conducts demilitarization of munitions for the U.S. Army in support of Joint Forces and international partner nations.
