    2d Cavalry Regiment

Outlaw Troop, 4th Squadron, 2d Cavalry Regiment, assumed the responsibility of the U.S. Army Europe’s Contingency Reaction Force for Saber Strike 18, May 30 2018 . Outlaw Troop’s primary mission was to ensure routes were clear for the regiment and be prepared to deploy within 48-hours of receiving their alert. Outlaw Troop cleared routes and assisted the regiment with establishing defensive positions.

The Troopers, well aware of the importance of their mission, trained hard and ensured comprehensive readiness leading up to their mission. After many long days focusing on maintenance and reconnaissance fundamentals, Outlaw Troop was well prepared for their 4,400 kilometer movement and the two weeks of dynamic training ahead of them.

The troop move forward from Rose Barracks, Germany to Latvia for a 5-day, joint operation with the 2nd Infantry Brigade of the Latvian Land Forces. Traveling through four countries without any support from the squadron or other outside organizations provided an excellent training opportunity for the Soldiers and junior leaders.

Upon arriving in Latvia, Outlaw Troop joined forces with partner countries for a 5-day exercise at an abandoned Soviet radar installation in Skrunda. During the training, the Soldiers tested the capabilities of their systems and equipment while simulataneously enhancing their knowledge of their ally's capabilities. They planned, prepared and executed in a multi-national formation, and achieved tactical success thanks to months of training that emphasized the critical importance of interoperability and professional expertise.

“Proving that we can integrate with different nations and conduct reconnaissance and security operations was great," said 1st. Lt. Xavier Mosley, platoon leader, Outlaw Troop, 4/2CR. "We were able to adapt and overcome any mission that was thrown at us. Communication is the biggest thing. Being able to communicate with other nations on our platform [is] crucial.”

As a result, Outlaw Troop conducted multiple diverse missions in a variety of operational environments and will in turn be able to provide the U.S. Army with fundamental feedback on the capabilities and limitations of the CRF. This feedback will impact future operations at the tactical, operational and strategic level.
