The Seabees were approached in March by the school principal, Clark Graham, concerning their need for an improved structure. After performing a site survey and witnessing the students holding class under a tarp, the Seabees of NMCB 11 decided to take on the project. Over the course of a week the Seabees constructed a wood framed building to provide protection from the rain and the sun.
From start to finish, the appreciation could be seen and felt from the community. “The emotions we get to see while working here in Chuuk is very exhilarating. Seeing everyone with big smiles makes my day,” said Builder 3rd Class George Wilkie. The Seabees of NMCB-11 CCAD FSM have built lasting relationships with the community and will continue to seek out ways to improve the living and working conditions in the local community. Their efforts will improve the quality of life for the students while strengthening Host Nation relationships, providing educational infrastructure improvements and displaying the U.S. commitment to the Federated States of Micronesia.
The CCAD is in Chuuk to complete Humanitarian Assistance projects while providing support for the local community through apprentice training, military enlistment preparation, basic community health assistance, and community relation involvement.
NMCB-11 is homeported in Gulfport, Mississippi, and is part of the Naval Construction Force (NCF). They currently have personnel assigned to more than 15 locations world-wide performing a variety of missions in support of the Navy and the Department of Defense.
