JOHNSTON, Iowa — Maj. Brian Blaine relinquished command of Marine Corps Recruiting Station Des Moines to Maj. Patrick J. Skehan during a ceremony aboard Camp Dodge, June 23, 2018.
RS Des Moines's mission is to supervise and administer the enlisted and officer procurement programs of the Regular and Reserve establishment and to perform such other tasks as may be directed by the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Affectionately dubbed the "Wolfpack Nation" by its Marines, the station is headquartered out of Camp Dodge and oversees 10 recruiting substations and two officer selection teams throughout Iowa and Nebraska.
A Cleveland, Miss. Native and infantry officer, Blaine assumed command of RS Des Moines in June 2014 and will report to Quantico, Va., to serve at the Marine Corps Command and Staff College. Under Blaine's command the station received the Commandant of the Marine Corps' Superior Achiever Award in fiscal years 2015, 2016, and 2017.
Originally from Atlanta, Ga., Skehan's most recent assignment was at the Marine Corps Command and Staff College where he earned a Masters in Military Studies and graduated with honors, from June 2017 to June 2018. He brings with him his years of experience as an infantry officer and multiple deployments including Ramadi, Iraq, in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Marine Rotational Force-Darwin, and two Marine Expeditionary Units aboard the USS Nassau and the USS Makin Island.
