Approximately 140 U.S. Army National Guard Soldiers changed unit patches during a shoulder-sleeve insignia change, or patching, ceremony held on June 15, 2018, at North Fort Hood, Texas.

Bravo Company (B. Co.), 935th Aviation Support Battalion (ASB), is from Kankakee, Illinois, with three detachments located in Rapid City, South Dakota; Savannah, Georgia; and Warrensburg, Missouri.

While B. Co. main and the three detachments normally drill independently, they have gathered at North Fort Hood in preparation for a deployment to the Middle East under the 935th ASB.

Command Sgt. Maj. Paul Durr, the Command Sgt. Maj. of the 935th ASB, 35th Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB), headquartered in Springfield, Missouri, said, “The patching ceremony signifies the unification of Bravo company.”

Detachment (Det.) 3, B. Co., from Warrensburg stood to the right of the formation, while B. Co. main; Det. 1, B. Co., from South Dakota; and Det. 2, B. Co., from Georgia, replaced their old unit patches with the unit patch worn by 935th ASB and 35th CAB.

“The 35th Division’s, also known as the Santa Fe Division, insignia is a white cross within a white wagon wheel on a blue field,” said CPT Nickolaus Orphan, the Commanding Officer Det. 3, B. Co., from Warrensburg, Missouri.

Lt. Col. Leif Thompson, the Battalion Commander of the 935th ASB, individually changed the patches of the command team, guidon bearer, and squad leaders. Once he finished, Maj. Thane Jackson, Company Commander, B. Co., ordered the squad leaders to then place patches on the uniforms of each respective squad member.

Det. 3, B. Co., proceeded to fall-in on the formation. For the duration of the deployment, B. Co. will act as one group.

“We’re all Bravo,” said Thompson. “We’re all one.”
