William Beaumont Army Medical Center welcomed U.S. Army Medical Command’s (MEDCOM) top enlisted Soldier during a short visit to the hospital, May 16-18.
During his visit, Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Gragg, command sergeant major, MEDCOM held a town hall with WBAMC Noncommissioned Officers (NCOs) and stressed the importance of readiness, medical training and Army values.
“We’ve got to do our part wherever we are working,” said Gragg, as he addressed NCOs during the town hall.
While at Fort Bliss, Gragg visited with WBAMC and 1st Armored Division leaders, outlying WBAMC primary care clinics, Fort Bliss Dental Activity clinics, the Fort Bliss Veterinary Clinic and traveled north to White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, to visit with Soldiers at McAfee U.S. Army Health Clinic.
Other topics discussed included personnel issues, job skills and scope of duty, and career advancement.
“Everybody totally commits (to the Army) at a different time and at a different level,” said Gragg. “While they’re doing something (they love in the Army) they realize that this is their life calling. My dad was a Soldier, my brother a soldier, so I knew I wanted to be a Soldier.”
Soldiers have to blaze their own path to career success, said Gragg. Soldiers don’t have to follow traditional paths, he added as he cited his own path as MEDCOM’s top enlisted.
As Gragg wrapped up the discussion, he emphasized the importance of each individual’s commitment to the Army and to other Soldiers.
“We’re Soldiers who are medically trained; we’re Soldiers with a medical mission; we’re Soldiers who are medical professionals,” said Gragg. “I keep putting Soldier first because that’s what you are, first and foremost.”
