Charpentier leaves LRMC for Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, where he will assume responsibilities as command sergeant major for the Regional Health Command Pacific.
During the ceremony, LRMC commander, Col. Claude Burnett, spoke of Charpentier’s time at the hospital, highlighting his character as a selfless leader.
“Command Sgt. Maj. Charpentier [has] been a commander’s battle buddy, a confidant, LRMC’s primary trainer, a standard bearer, an advisor to all and my mentor,” said Burnett. “The Regional Health Command Europe is better, LRMC is better and I am better for you having passed our way.”
Charpentier began his military career at Fort Sill, Oklahoma before graduating from advanced individual training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas as a combat medic. Charpentier completed assignments at 10 other duty locations before assuming the responsibility as the LRMC command sergeant major in 2017, an assignment that would last 14 months.
Charpentier is a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit and the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, and has earned the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Expert Field Medical Badge, the Air Assault Badge and more. During the ceremony, Charpentier reflected on his “two decades and a half” career and what LRMC’s motto of selfless service means to him.
“Over this past Memorial Day weekend, [my wife] Mindi and I took a trip to Lorraine, France to the American cemetery,” said Charpentier. “As I saw the number of crosses marking the graves of our fallen, the hair on the back of my neck stood up because I could feel the power of a nation.”
Charpentier credits that power to the service members, civilian corps, local national employees and volunteers who selflessly serve the United States, and who he believes are changing lives every day.
Regarded as a “Soldier’s sergeant major” by many enlisted personnel at LRMC, Charpentier encouraged LRMC Soldiers to remember their primary mission as warfighters.
“The best medicine on the battlefield is superior fire power,” said Charpentier. “If we don’t get hurt, no one needs to treat us [for injuries].”
Before departing to the west coast, Charpentier issued a stern challenge to his fellow enlisted service members.
“Train and prepare others,” said Charpentier. “Ask the hard questions and become a force multiplier. The truth fears no question.”
Command Sgt. Maj. Victor Laragione, the LRMC Troop Command top enlisted Soldier, will assume the duties of the hospital command sergeant major until mid-Summer before he also departs for Joint Base Lewis-McChord where he will become the hospital command sergeant major at Madigan Army Medical Center.
Command Sgt. Maj. Thurman Reynolds, previous command sergeant major of Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Georgia, will assume responsibility as the LRMC command sergeant major following Laragione’s departure.
