Lt. Gen. L. Scott Rice, the director of the Air National Guard, and Chief Master Sgt. Ronald C. Anderson, the command chief master sergeant of the Air National Guard, visited the 128th Air Refueling Wing, Wisconsin Air National Guard, June 3, 2018.
The distinguished visitors toured the 128 ARW during the wing's regularly scheduled drill to ensure they had the opportunity to talk with the maximum number of 128 ARW Airmen.
Rice and Anderson toured the 128 ARW boom simulator, several 128 ARW Maintenance squadrons and a static KC-135 Stratotanker. Rice and Anderson also attended a mentoring luncheon with a sampling of 128 ARW Airmen where they encouraged Airmen to share their military stories.
"During lunch, everyone at the table had a chance to tell their story about how they got to where they are today in the military," said Airman First Class Adriana Morales, an intelligence analyst with the 128th Operations Support Squadron at the 128th Air Refueling Wing.
Rice and Anderson listened to each Airmen's experience in the service thus far as well as shared their own military story that lead them to where they are today.
"It was special because sometimes lower ranking individuals like me, who are at the bottom of the totem pole, don't think big leaders care about us," said Morales. "Gen. Rice and Chief Anderson coming to take time out of their day to visit us, ask about our story, and come see what we do made me realize they care about us and that made me feel really special."
"This unit is truly amazing," said Anderson. "Today, I met someone who's been out of the military for 14 years and just rejoined the Air National Guard. I've met husbands and wives. I met father and daughters who are serving together. Everyone is so passionate about their work here at the unit. The Air National Guard really is a family and I am proud to be a part of this family with you."
Rice and Anderson continuously expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the service of 128 ARW Airmen. Rice and Anderson also recognized the recent, esteemed achievements of Airmen during the 128 ARW Commander's Call Sunday afternoon.
"You are making a difference in the Air National Guard," said Rice. "In your hands is one of our nation's most valuable assets. The future of our nation is in your hands and I trust every one of you with that responsibility. Thank you for your service and thank you for your dedication to the Air National Guard."
This visit was one of several stops the distinguished leaders' plan to make to each of the 90 wings of the ANG. The tour aims to provide key military leaders with a better understanding of Airmen's everyday experiences, initiate top-down communication for the ANG's growing culture of innovation and modernization, and to encourage Airmen to brainstorm ideas together for how the ANG can continue its legacy as an essential, national asset for future military operations.
