Story by Senior Master Sgt. Roger Parsons

    116th Air Control Wing

FIGHTER WING SKRYDSTRUP, Denmark — An E-8C Joint STARS, assigned to the 116th Air Control Wing, Georgia Air National Guard, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, plus active duty personnel assigned to the 461st Air Control Wing, and Army JSTARS personnel arrived at Fighter Wing Skrydstrup, June 2, 2018.

JSTARS brings a unique, manned, joint airborne command control, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capability to participate in Exercise Baltic Operations June 4-15 and Saber Strike 18 from June 3-15.

During BALTOPS, the Georgia Airmen will join military forces from 17 nations to enhance flexibility and interoperability among allied and partner nations to strengthen combined response capabilities, as well as demonstrate international resolve to ensure stability in, and if necessary defend, the Baltic Sea region.

The Saber Strike exercise facilitates cooperation between the U.S., Estonia, Latvia Lithuania, Poland, and other allied and partner nations to improve joint operational capability in a variety of missions and prepare the participating nations and units for future operations while enhancing the NATO alliance.

Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, is the sole location for the U.S. Air Force’s only E-8C Joint STARS unit. They have been deployed continuously since 2001 and have accumulated nearly 120,000 combat flying hours in support of combatant commanders around the globe.

Participation in multinational exercises, such as BALTOPS and Saber Strike, enhances defense relationships and improves overall coordination and interoperability between allies and partner militaries.
