(Newark, NJ.) -- The ripple effect that one doctor can have on their patients cannot be measured in numbers, but rather the impression they make on the patients they serve. Five of the Rutgers School of Medicine students who graduated on Monday, May 14, 2018 have chosen the path of military service. Lieutenant Colonel Merbin Carattini gave the Administration of Oath in front of thousands of friends and families. He said his “mission is to ensure that the United States Army has the required healthcare professionals that will continue to serve American Soldiers and their families.” He continued by saying that, “your contributions will help us build a better and healthier world.”

The Monday morning ceremony took place at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, NJ. The auditorium quickly filled to capacity while both students and families searched for each other in the crowd. The future military doctors sat in the front. Flags representing each of the military services graced the stage.

Earlier that morning LTC Carattini led a private commissioning ceremony inducting the future military doctors into the Officer’s Corps. Each service was represented and received their respective promotions into the Officer Corps.

He ended the ceremony by personally thanking the newly-inducted Servicemembers families for their emotional sacrifice and selfless service to our Nation.
