    193rd Special Operations Wing

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Air Force Junior ROTC cadets from J.P. McCaskey High School in Lancaster visited the 193rd Special Operations Wing May 8.

The visit familiarized the Junior ROTC cadets with the mission and capabilities of the 193rd SOW and provided an opportunity to meet and speak with Airmen.

Tech. Sgt. Kalie Borkowski, a production recruiter and retainer with the 193rd SOW, discussed the importance of these types of visits.

"The Pennsylvania Air National Guard is dedicated to creating a culture of awareness for Junior ROTC cadets to keep them informed of their options after high school,” said Borkowski. “The intent of these visits is to ensure they know all of the great benefits the ANG has to offer them. The more knowledgeable they are about each branch, the happier they will be about decision they choose to make.”

Retired Master Sgt. Jonathan Beaver, an aerospace science instructor with the Air Force Junior ROTC program at J.P. McCaskey commented on the visit.

“It was a very good trip,” said Beaver. “The cadets learned a lot about the mission. For some it was their first experience seeing an aircraft that close or first time on a military installation.”

It was very beneficial and they look forward to visiting again said Beaver.

Cadet Baker, a sophomore at J.P. McCaskey who’s in her first year in the Junior ROTC program, said the visit went really well and was a new experience for her. Going into the flight deck of the EC-130SJ Super J aircraft and seeing all the controls and instruments was one of the highlights of the visit for her.
