“I’m grateful to be here,” Michael Morgan said in the chapel of the Omaha VA Medical Center, as the National Day of Prayer service ended, May 3.
Morgan, who is a U.S. Army Veteran and patient of the facility, joined other staff members in the annual recognition of the event as the presidential proclamation, signed this year by President Donald Trump, was read by Cliff Short and Shane Van Dorin, both chaplains of the Omaha facility.
“This day brings people who work here and serve our Veterans an opportunity to be encouraged as they go about their daily mission,” Chaplain Short, an Air Force Veteran, said.
Chaplain Van Dorin has overseen several National Day of Prayer services, but he has always sought the national guidelines for each one. This year was no different.
“Each service moves my emotions to know that persons in such position of power take the time to acknowledge the need for such a day,” Chaplain Van Dorin said.
This annual observance is traditionally held on the first Thursday of May, which was designated by Congress. Since its creation, the president has signed the proclamation to encourage all American to pray on this day.
