Infantry Officers on Fort Drum Can Talk to Branch Managers One-On-One About Career Decisions This Week

Infantry Branch Managers from Human Resources Command are briefing and sitting down with infantry officers from the 10th Mountain Division from April 23 through April 27, 2018 at Fort Drum, New York, to talk about recent developments concerning career opportunities.

Infantry officers now have opportunities open that would not have been available to them until much later on in their career paths.

“One example is, we are now sending captains to assignments that were previously just for post command captains because those captains are being consumed by other things now,” said Lt. Col. Donald Ray Neal Jr., an infantry branch manager from Human Resources Command. “We’re identifying the right officers that are mature and have demonstrated good performance to go to assignments like training centers to be observer coaches (OC’s).”

Neal said these officers will spend a few years doing great work in their career field and that there’s no better way to be a future company commander. Officers will come out of a training center, then go to a brigade and be put into the command queue.

He also said that officers should contact their branch managers at important points during their key development.

“When you get into your key development job, come up over the net and let your career manager know,” Neal said. “Typically when the first report comes out to indicate how your performance is in key development, come back up on the net and talk to your career manager. Let them advise you on the things that you should be considering post key development.”

Infantry officer branch managers will be available from this Monday until late Thursday for a one-on-one counseling. Officers who want to talk to a branch manager directly about their careers should take advantage of this, Neal said.

There are also online resources available as well.

The Human Resources Command website has an active officer tab that will lead them to the infantry branch page, he said. They can also log onto the Assignment Interactive Module or AIM portal to access information and resources concerning their careers.

“Many officers in their career field will have limited opportunities to sit down and hear how the assignment process works, how career management works from an assignment officer perspective,” Neal said. “We’re here to help people understand that environment the way we do as career managers.”
