Sixty-seven Afghan police graduated from the National Mission Unit Operator Course in a ceremony held at the Special Police Training Wing in Logar, Afghanistan, Apr. 11, 2018. The class is an advanced training course given to seasoned police officers from the Police Special Unit or to officers who are a part of the Afghan Special Security Forces’ growth pipeline and have completed the basic police officer course. The graduates received advanced firearms training, police skills, and classes in tactical operations and physical fitness—all of which further hone their skills and abilities to combat Afghanistan’s worst enemies.

Graduating students will either provide force protection to SPTW or become a member of one of the new National Mission Units, or “triples.” The triples are Afghanistan’s elite police units: Crisis Response Unit (CRU 222 in Kabul), Command Force (CF 333 in Logar), and Afghan Territorial Force (ATF 444 in Kandahar). Playing a crucial role in maintaining good governance and the rule of law in Afghanistan, NMUs provide high-risk arrest, counter-terrorism, and counter-narcotic missions under the Ministry of Interior.

The next National Mission Unit Operator course begins April 14 and will have one of the largest classes to date, with 100 students attending. The growth in class size is part of the ANDSF 2020 Roadmap; the NMUs will double from three NMUs to six by 2020.
