    MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII – Personnel from various federal, state, and local agencies are scheduled to participate in a National Preparedness for Response Exercise Program (PREP) Full Scale Exercise (FSE), “Hanini Response,” Apr. 24th through 26th aboard the installation and Kaneohe Bay.

    The purpose of the exercise is to prepare all personnel to respond to a real world, significant oil spill situation. Participating agencies include: Marine Corps Base Hawaii, U.S. Coast Guard, Navy Region Hawaii, Joint Base Pearl Harbor, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, National Parks Service, State of Hawaii Department of Health, State Department of Land and Natural Resources, Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, Pacific Environmental Corporation, Marine Spill Response Corporation, Clean Islands Council, Hawaii Wildlife Center, City and County of Honolulu, University of Hawaii, National Response Cooperation.

    PREP was developed to establish a workable exercise program which meets the intent of section 4202(a) of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA 90), subsection (7) for spill response preparedness [33 U.S.C. 1321 (j)].

    Media are invited to attend the Apr. 24th and 25th segments of the exercise, and if interested, must RSVP by noon, Friday, Apr. 20th with Staff Sgt. Alisa Helin at 808-630-8295.
