Ensign Erin Thamm, Naval Hospital Pensacola Public Affairs Office
The Galley at Naval Hospital Pensacola is now displaying nutritional information for food items in the “Go Green” format to help customers make healthy choices.
Based on the colors for each item, Galley users will be able to decipher which food item is best for them.
• Green foods are healthier choices. These items are higher in nutritional value and are fresh and flavorful.
• Yellow foods should be chosen occasionally. These items provide less nutritional value than green food choices. Yellow foods may be more processed, contain higher calories, sugar, salt or fat.
• Red foods should be eaten rarely. These items are the highest in either calories, sugar, salt or fat.
How much “green” item foods should be consumed every day for a balanced healthy diet? According to Lt. Cassie Sipe, a registered dietitian at NHP, "Everyone's caloric needs are different*, but for the most part, a healthy diet should consist of mostly 'green' item foods throughout the day, snacks and meals."
To learn how many servings are recommended daily for your individual nutrition needs or any other nutrition related questions, please contact the Nutrition Clinic at 850-505-6417. No referral is needed for general nutrition or weight management. For other concerns such as diabetes or hypertension, please ask your primary care manager for a nutrition referral.
The Galley at NHP is open to all visitors and staff is open Monday through Friday from 6 -7:45 a.m., 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 5 – 6:30 p.m.
