Facilitators of the event, Master Sgt. Curtis Lancaster and Tech Sgt. Jeremy Robinson Georgia Air National Guard recruiters assigned to the 283rd Combat Communications Squadron called on members from the 165th Operations Support Squadron, Savannah, Ga. to help make the recruitment effort a success.

Once the 165th OSS received the call they were on mission.

Master Sgt. Brandi Bolden instructor loadmaster assigned to the 165th OSS was a part of the crew who got that mission. The next step for the crew was to coordinate flight times how many were flying and the pre-instructional briefings Bolden said.

Lancaster said the recruiting office wanted to try something different to encourage upcoming and graduating seniors to think about joining the Air National Guard and felt an orientation flight would be an excellent strategy.

“I wanted to give the students and experience to see what we do first hand,” said Lancaster.

“The overall goal of this initiative is to drive a lot of the lead [recruiting] traffic down to the 116th [Air Control Wing] and the 165th [Airlift Wing]“ Lancaster said.

This was the first of what the recruiters project to be a quarterly event.

The attending cadets and instructors came from Cobb, DeKalb, Gwinnett and Henry county school systems.

The event ended with lunch provided by the Air Force Association - Chapter 331 and a Q&A session from special guests including Maj. Gen. Jesse Simmons, Georgia Air National Guard commander, Chief Master Sgt. Reginald McPherson, Georgia Air National Guard command chief and Col. Kurt Stegner, Georgia Air National Guard director of staff.
