Forty-five vendors set up at the Timmermann Center here to provide information about various resources available to the community during a civilian resource fair, March 30.

The annual event showcases and provides information for civilian employees on Joint Base MDL.

“There are things on the base that civilians can access and they don’t always know what’s available to them,” said Judith Pates, 514th Air Mobility Wing Airman and Family Readiness Center director. “If you’re talking about supporting the military community, the civilian population is one of the most important parts and we’re showing our gratitude for their service through this event.”

The fair provided a chance for both civilians and service members alike to discover programs, tools and options available to them both on and off the installation. The intent of the helping agencies and vendors was to educate the local community on opportunities beneficial to civilians’ medical, professional and personal lives as well as educate the community on where they may go for services. For example, on-base resources like the McGuire Library and the Outdoor Recreation Center are available to all Defense Department identification cardholders on Joint Base MDL.

“The best thing about this is finding resources that you didn’t even know existed,” said Ginny Francis, 6th Airlift Squadron unit deployment manager. “It is amazing to know what’s out there. You never know when you might be in a situation where you need one of these resources you find out about at events like today.”

Some of the vendors and helping agencies included volunteers from Deborah Hospital, base safety, Family Advocacy, the Military and Family Readiness Center and the Base Chapel.

“The entire [resource fair] was eventful, resourceful and successful,” said Francis. “There was so much time and effort spent putting this together and I think it really paid off.”
