LAKE CHARLES, La. – Soldiers from the Louisiana National Guard's 256th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, headquartered in Lafayette, La., assisted at the Special Olympics, Oct. 18. The Soldiers assisted the staff with setting up the facilities at Pelican Park in Carencro, La.
"They've been real helpful to us setting up the tents and all the tables here in the park," said Dana R. Hickman, the director of volunteers for the Special Olympics.
"It's nice to be here. It makes me feel good to be helping out," said Lafayette, La., resident Pvt. Khaliygah L. Andrus.
"It's a wonderful opportunity," said Spc. Kevin M. Link of Lafayette, La. "We've been here since early in the week and it's been a lot of fun," he said.
