    Story by Alexandria Brimage-Gray

    U.S. Army Reserve Command

“She supported my dad for 26 years in the Army but it was her unconditional love, realness, and unwavering support to her kids through everything that definitely goes unnoticed,” said Bennett.
She recalls a time in high school when she suffered a head injury during a basketball game that despite her mother’s physical disability she managed to take care of her.
“I remember her, putting me on her back, helping me to get to the car after telling her that I could walk,” said Bennett. “Her strength to continue to be selfless despite having her own challenges, is something that I believe every woman has in them especially when it comes to their family.”
Master Sgt. Bennett credits her professional success to Sgt. Maj. Mary Butler, a previous Army supervisor that she had as a young Soldier moving through the ranks.
It was like she saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself.” (I would suggest cutting the negative and following “had as a young Soldier moving through the ranks. It was like she saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself.”
Bennett considers Butler to be a major influence in her life. She describes Butler as being honest, having a strong backbone and often saying things that you did not want to hear or making unpopular statements.
Bennett stated, “I ran back into her in 2012, she said, ’Oh My God!’ I can’t believe you are still in and you’re a senior NCO. I am so proud of you!”
