319th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment
FORT McCOY, Wis. – Clouds of dust puff up from the ground as Soldiers assigned to the 114th Medical Detachment break down tents that formerly housed the unit’s medical facilities from Improved Tactical Training Base Liberty to a new training location. To make it happen, a long line of Soldiers tossed large tent poles to one another in an effort to quickly take down the enormous tents, March 23, 2018.
Moving entire medical units can take up to two weeks in an operational environment. During the Combat Support Training Exercise, leaders wanted to test the unit’s ability to “jump” from one location to another while following the 256th Combat Support Hospital. It was the 114th’s goal to get everything packed up as fast as possible, so the unit could move to a new location quickly and efficiently.
“We’ve been pretty good with staying on task, and we have good leaders that know what they’re doing,” said Sgt. Eduardo Pereira, a physical therapy specialist with the 114th.
The 114th is a Ready Force X, or RFX, unit. Capability, lethality, and combat-readiness are top priorities of Army Reserve RFX units, according to Lt. Gen. Charles D. Luckey, Chief of Army Reserve and Commanding General, U.S. Army Reserve Command.
“I feel as a unit, we are very ready for this mission. We’ve been training for a while,” said Pfc. Michael Jiles, a combat medic assigned to the 114th. He explained that the 114th is capable of moving all the tents, medical supplies, and gear they have on the drop of a dime.
The 114th is part of the 352nd Combat Support Hospital, 2nd Medical Brigade, and is based in Fresno, California.
