ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England – The 48th Maintenance Group, Maintenance Training Section, is responsible for instructing more than two thousand Liberty Wing maintainers.

Knowledge is any Airman’s most valuable tool. It provides the right course of action to solve a problem, and continuous training helps expand and hone what a maintainer knows.

“Everything starts with training,” said the 48th MTS superintendent. “We’re the largest training section in USAFE and we make sure our maintainers can go out the door whenever they need to at a moment’s notice.”

Liberty Wing maintenance instructors manage almost two dozen course requirements and average 390 classes each year. From engine run tests and various aircraft inspections to Self-Aid Buddy Care and CPR, the courses run by the section provide necessary information to keep Liberty Wing maintainers prepared to execute the 48th Fighter Wing mission of providing premiere combat airpower to United States Air Forces Europe and Air Forces Africa.

“I love this job,” said the 48th MTS development and instruction section chief. “We have a set curriculum that we have to teach, but we can use our past experiences to help educate people, which enhances the course.”

The section teaches a mission-orientation course, which is the first course every maintainer has to complete after arriving here; as well as yearly hands-on training.

“I enjoy their style of teaching,” said a 48th MXG Airman. “They’ve had a lot of experience on the flight line so they can relate to us, which makes the learning experience that much better.”

The Maintenance Training Section contributes to the foundation of readiness that enables combat power projection in support of U.S. European and U.S. Africa Command priorities.
