COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The leaders of the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, cased the brigade colors during a ceremony March 1, 2018, at the Arrival/Departure Airfield Control Group.
Col. Dave Zinn, commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Anton Hillig, cased the colors, which symbolized the beginning of the “Warhorse” Brigade’s deployment to Afghanistan.
“Today we pause to case our colors to signify … we are ready to deploy into harm’s way,” said Hillig. “We will uncase our colors once we are in our forward (operating) base to signify to our Soldiers our rally point that they can always fall back to, as well as a beacon of freedom to those who are oppressed.”
The Warhorse Brigade conducted field training exercises on Fort Carson and the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, Louisiana, to prepare for their deployment to Afghanistan.
“Our Warhorse Soldiers are trained, they’re ready, they’re confident and they’re resolute,” said Zinn. “They will serve with dignity and honor, (and) when we complete our mission we look forward to returning to our Families, our loved ones and Fort Carson; proud of what we have done.”
Zinn, who took command of the brigade in June, said he is honored to be part of a brigade with such a distinguished history.
“This brigade has deployed multiple times to both Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Zinn. “It’s both a privilege and an honor to be on this team, and I’m proud to be part of the next chapter in the history of this distinguished brigade.”
