The 11th Operations Group is scheduled to host several Black History Month events here throughout February.
This year’s theme is “African Americans in Times of War.”
“All the events are meant to be educational and highlight the successes of African American figures in history and in our armed forces,” said Master Sgt. Grant Langford, BHM events point of contact and U.S. Air Force Band member.
On Feb. 23 at 6 p.m., four chief master sergeants will share their perspectives, experiences and thoughts in a panel discussion on African American historical pioneers. The discussion will be followed by a movie screening of “Marshall” at 7 p.m. at the JBA Theater.
A soul food luncheon will be held Feb. 12 at noon, featuring a jazz performance by the U.S. Air Force Band Airmen of Note ensemble and a black history trivia contest.
There will also be book readings, recommended for kids aged 2 through 8, at the base library here Feb. 26 at 5:30 p.m. and Feb. 28 at 10:30 a.m. Attendees will learn about the Tuskegee Airmen, Martin Luther King Jr. and Bessie Coleman.
